Tired of Apple's locked ecosystem
Switching to Android.
I travel to China half of the year, I NEED and unlocked phone so that i can pop in my Chinese SIM card when i'm there.
iPhone is just not for me.
FU Apple.... so much for Freedom in the US.
You can buy factory unlocked on the Swiss Apple Online-store (maybe in other countries too)

Anyway, this is one of the few major mac desktop websites left. The others are dead (haven't been updated in a very long time) or just tooo SLOW (like Spymac's TheAppleCollection.com)

Why doesn't the government just take it right off of the top? For every dollar you earn the government gets a percentage and you keep the rest. Do that for everyone and we would not need to file income taxes. The government would always know how much you earn on a constant basis.
This idea seems like it would be a lot more complex than it is now.
Who would be responsible for getting the money to the government? The "employers" or the "earners"? For instance on ebay, would ebay inc. take a % of the sellers income and be responsible for turning it in?

Yes, if you are a student eligible for the Student free iPod offer. Did you purchase the eligible Mac on or before 9/24/05? You can just say that you purchased from the Apple Store Online. Be sure that you cut out the UPC code on the Mac and iPod (that is if you have it already.) You must cut out the cardboard of the box along with the UPC label attached.
yup purchased on september 24th I always procrastinate (butchered spelling)

Hello,
I am trying to create a new database with the mysqladmin command in MAMP. Im in the terminal and I have navigated to
/Applications/MAMP/bin/mysql4/bin
and then I hit
sudo ./mysqladmin create databasename
and I get this message
error: 'Access denied for user: 'xxxxxxx@localhost' (Using password: NO)'
Is there something I can do to fix this?
Thanks in advance!

Impressed by iTV and want to buy one. Now all I need is a way to record TV programs on my Apple hard drive.

With this downloadable market, Microsoft and Sony have gotten it pretty well zipped up. Im not sure about the Wii as I havent really seen it online.
But Microsoft have done big deals with Sega and such, and are porting all of their games to the arcade store. Several gems which make Angry Birds profits look like chump change are available. And Sony have PS1 games available on demand.
I don't think Apple even wants to be a player in the Gaming Industry, not the big one anyways. They are a big competitor in the handheld industry though.
Maybe if Apple launched a console it might make some headway, but launching at this stage would be tricky, it has to forge friendships with developers, get deals cut with them. Last time Apple attempted a push into gaming, they let Halo slip through their fingers.

I have recently acquired a PowerBook Duo 280c with an Apple Mini Dock, a Micro Dock and a floppy drive. I also have an AsanteTalk, which acts as a physical bridge between RJ45 ethernet and LocalTalk networks. It's running Mac OS 7.6.1.
On my desktop is a MacBook Pro Core Duo with OS X v10.6, an internet connection and a USB floppy drive.
I have a stack of System 7 software, but mostly on CD. There also still seems to be a lot hanging around the Internet.
What I want to do is get software onto the Duo. I know nothing whatsoever technical about the Classic OS or LocalTalk. I am aware that a USB floppy drive won't read traditional Mac formatted disks, though OS 7.6.1 seems to have some level of support for DOS floppies.
So, I guess:

Well, I have to use paired RAM, right? That's my only option...
The next question: Is there a difference performance-wise, between adding, say, 2 x 4GB or 4 x 2 GB? As I understand it, tri-channel only applies to the later Mac Pros...

They ship more and more products to the market, their profits keep going up and up, truly there seems to be no end to this golden age. Apple is truly an achievement, soaring upwards cutting through this recession like a hot knife through butter. I love private business. <3

Right, I also use a Yahoo account as a dummy and don't have problems with it. I only go there every few months or so and delete everything.

Any statistics available for those who have one vs the other by any chance?
See the AnandTech article or the referenced MacRumors thread. The Samsung drive appears about 15-20% faster in some of the benchmarks.

Why not just buy the Mac version of AutoCAD?
I am going to guess and say because a windows license cost much less than buying another Autocad license.

Have a PowerMac G5 here at work that now flashes that wonderful blinking folder icon upon powering up. Seems to have lost its way to the operating system. The person before me did a wonderful job of not leaving behind any documentation regarding it... So now I'm stuck at square one with not much to go off of.
Have tried all the discs in my office, that are all for Mac OS X (Mac Computers, etc, startup discs), and I keep getting the error that "Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer". Lovely, right? It's an older model, I'm guessing before Mac started having Intel-based processors. Anyone know online where I can, maybe, download an appropriate startup disc, or if there's any way I can get to another startup screen?

It's a freeware app called Temperature Monitor. Here's a link:

It works great if you have supported hardware, or I should say hardware that is capable of reporting temperatures.
edit: Oh, and according to the author's FAQ,
the "normal" temperature for current Mac CPUs depends on the particular model, but CPU temperatures between 122 and 158 degrees Fahrenheit (50 to 70 degrees Celsius) can be expected for all up-to-date computers. The PowerPC 7450 processor used on most G4 models is specified to operate at a die-junction temperature between 0 and 105 degrees Celsius (32 to 221 degrees Fahrenheit).

I saw news about their 3G network but no mention of Apple. I'm surprised that they're talking it up. If I would speculate about the two, I would say that Apple has added T-Mobile-compatible 3G hardware to their laptop computers the way others have added Sprint-compatible 3G hardware to theirs.

I would like to throw my hat in with this...
In scotland, there's loads of people called mac and macintosh. ;)
Nice Try. But hardly prize worthy.
Now if you had sold your children on the black market for a mac pro and a 30" ACD - that might be considered really fanatical ;):p:D

I want to stick my iphone 4 on a stalk mount which plugs into a console power source in my car and I want the thing to charge my iphone 4. I see numerous charging stalk mounts for older iphones, but, they specifically state somewhere in the description that they DON'T charge iphone 4's. It's been nearly a year since the 4 was released. What is the problem?

Please DON'T give me the answer on this problem but help me understand the question better. It is a take home quiz due tomorrow.
I don't know what a 'subscript' is that it refers to in this T or F Question.
Q: " An Array is a collection of elements of the same type referenced by a single name and one or more SUBSCRIPTS. The SUBSCRIPTS may be of different types as long as they are ordered. True or False"
Thanks,
-Lars
