I run VPC6 with XP pro on my tiBook and the performance is o.k. (and it's super stable too)... it runs fine if you turn off all eye candy and delete and deinstall all the stuff you don't need.

the GUI will look like Win98 then...

The MacBook Air and the iPad are the future of portable computing. Thin, light, fast (SSD). Enough power to get the job done, not so much power you need 3 cooling fans and 3 lbs. of battery to do it.

It's not that the MacBook Air is evolving into a mainstream product. It's the mainstream that's evolving into MacBook Air-like products.

Exactly. This is a continuation of the dumbing-down (and I don't mean that in a bad way) of computing. Most people don't need a huge amount of storage or blazing-fast processors. They need a computer for tooling around on the Web, email, basic work tasks like spreadsheets and word processing, and fun tasks like photos and music. If a computer can do all this at a good price, with a very long battery life, and looks great doing it, then it's good enough. Apple was smart to strip out many of the expensive components in order to reduce the price, without reducing functionality for the average user.

Image named can only be used to load images from your own applications bundle. The "name" is the file name. As you are saving to the photos album you cannot retrieve the image by "name".

I worked for a couple of years in the cell phone industry for a company that acts as an intermediary between cell phone companies for various products. As part of my job, I had to deal with various escalations departments for all of the carriers and found that T-mobile actually had pretty good customer service. Maybe not the best but certainly not the worst.

Personally, I use T-mobile now and get a few more dropped calls than if I were using Verizon but they are also cheaper and have much nicer phones because they support GSM. I think that they are a solid choice if you live in top 100 markets but if not they just don't have the coverage. I really hope that they can expand their market to become competitive with Cingular and Verizon. Competition is always a good thing and I think that they would probably make a good partner for Apple.

Only the quad has it from the last few months. Mines working perfectly, I'm not about to pull it apart for pictures.

Does it resemble that of the two big black boxed one? Thats the one I have, but having had this Quad 2.5 years back I never had problems with it. I also read that the Quad's failure rating is around 1 percent compared to the dual 2.5 from 2004 and dual 2.7 from early 2005 - am I correct?

title pretty much says it all. is it "worth it" to pay for the price of developer status just to download and play around with the lion preview? or, should i just wait for the official release?

Cool. I definitely agree that this is a good idea. The only problem with a CC license is that someone whose post was copied from the forums might not agree with the license.

Maybe when a post is copied from the forums, we should PM the original poster to let them know...

Another thing which I've just noticed with it, after about 2 hours of charging it has said that it is charged. But after pulling it out of the dock and plugging it straight back in it has gone on and charged for another few hours (not sure how long exactly but over 2 at least). Anyone else experience this?

I think this patent could be used for several things that aren't the iPod.

    1. A universal remote for iTV and FrontRow (that would function somewhat like SallingClicker).

    2. Perhaps for use in an Ultra Portable? This is such a small, niche market that I doubt Apple getting involved in it at this time, but I would think that holding a machine with both hands and using your thumbs on the bezel instead of a joystick could be great. It would be faster and more convienient than a touch screen.*

    3. New touch-sensitive bezel on iPod shuffle. Ok, that is just ridiculous. I said several above and I didn't want to change that to 2.*

It's totally up to how much your current apps take space. If they only take like 20GB, then 60GB is more than fine. See this (http://guides.macrumors.com/Symbolic_Link_(Fixing_Steam_Content)) guide to move your Steam games to other drives

Can you change the battery without voiding Apple's warranty?

For the new laptops without removable batteries, no you can't. The previous generation has external batteries that are removable with a simple coin twist of a lock.

    Yes, cmd-x is cut.

I'm not sure if it works however on folders and files. It's good for just text, images, etc.

Competition regulation in many EU countries require apple (or providers) to unlock any handsent with some restrictions (you may have to prove you've waited a certain time, or you are required to pay a fee etc), but I know that in France for example the provider that sells the iPhone there is required to unlock any handsent provided it was sold at least 6 months ago, for a 100 euros. Even if it wasn't bought/sold in France.
Some countries like Belgium don't even allow sim locked phones (or used to not allow) and some carriers sell them with out sim lock by choice in others, like Slovakia, and then some other countries I think can only unlock phones that are locked to a certain providers network, like Hungary T and Voda I think can only unlock T and Voda iPhones respectively, but perhaps phones bought on other networks (Ie T-mobile Germany, or Voda UK or New Zealand or whatever) some of these services maybe taking advantage of these work arounds. If this is the case, these unlocks are legal and Apple has no legal way of relocking these phones. IE in france they HAVE to unlock your phone even if it is ATT... or one would think so logically. Although this info maybe off, but it was definatley the case during iPhone 3g sales...

Are you sure that's correct? So you're saying if I go to France with my locked AT&T iPhone 4, the carriers there will have to unlock it for me if I ask? I actually just asked this question in another thread and I'm getting mixed responses: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=12393503

I would try both out, if possible. Some people have other macs and airs and end up using the air more because the ssd makes the experience that much nicer. Of course, you always upgrade the pro to a ssd later.

I personally would go for the pro - I'd look to possibly replace the hd with ssd at a later point, when more money is available, if the ssd is important. Also, the faster processor and additional ram will make it more future proof, in case your computing demands increase in the future.

No, it isn't, and they may have GPS but that's a coincidence and I can tell you flat out that T-Mobile does not use GPS to locate your phone.

The Federally Mandated Requirement is that the mobile operator is able to locate your position. The technology they use is up to them. GSM operators do it via triangulation. E911 is supposed to work regardless of how old the phone is that you're using. Do you think your 1980s Motorola brick AMPS phone has a GPS receiver in it?

The company that provides the triangulation technology is True Position. This is the primary solution used today for locating people using cell phones. However, it is expensive to deploy and the reason providers rather use GPS since it does not require them to update their Cell towers.

This is MONTHS old... PCMag is quoting a ThinkSecret report from earlier in the year. Too lazy to find a link myself. :)

It's ThinkSecret, so I don't believe it. I do think it will happen, but not because ThinkSecret is saying it will.

    Lasso? I don't get it.

    Code name.

Really, really old news Think Secret report here:
