Yup.. and bars to the left and right as well, which left me unsatisfied..It's really no wonder that the Romans didn't have good mathematicians. With these numbers, calculations must have been impossible...

If they had them, and consequently added probably $100 or more to the price of the display, would you actually commit to buying one... today?
& i'm sure folks want faster reaction time better graphics capabilities
Possibly, but that's a limitation on LCD tech in general which will get better with time, but Apple LCD's at present are probably among the best computer LCD displays available. I don't know what else you'd do until the tech itself improves... except to say this: Those who are really serious about color, clarity and contrast should stick to CRT's for the time being. Nothing beats a Trinitron in this arena.
& somewhere, someone wants it glossy
Probably... but the greater likelihood is that graphic designers who tend to buy the higher end Apple LCD's don't. Matte displays are far better for accurate color and contrast. Glossy displays falsely enrich the image, which is a problem if you're trying to maintain a color match from prepress to proof.

If that external backup on your '09 was created using Time Machine, it will simply move everything to the new computer...apps and all...without you needing to think twice about it. In fact on starting up the new iMac, you will be asked if you want to migrate data from another computer or source and a Time Machine backup is one of the options.
If you backup was created through other means, TM may not be able to copy everything over and you may have to install some apps from disc.
(You didn't specifically say if the previous backup of the '09 was done with TM. I assume, but just want to be sure. )
awesome! Yeah I have always used Time Machine and have updates done every few days for over the past year and half. That would be amazing if its an easy transfer. I've never used Time Machine other than backing up, but it reads to me like it should be a no hassle way to update my new computer to what I'm using now with the old one.

Speed I would have to check on, like I said this is not my laptop. I would prefer if needed you to do the work. I have no problem stripping any of the pc's apart to work on them, laptops or desktops that is. But macs I have stayed away from. Get me your contact info, and I will give you a call and we can discuss this. Thanks.

And in Perl, you can run this directly from Mac OS X Terminal:
perl -e '$j = 0.2; $k = 6; for ($i = 0; $i < 30; $i++) { $j = $k * $j - 1; print $j . " "; }'
It is just one of a handful of ways that show that if you don't think when you program a function then you can end up with something that doesn't work simply because of limitations within floating point units within computers today. One solution is to use decimal mathematics for decimal numbers (the other being to think about your algorithm to increase numerical accuracy). This is quite slow (relatively) on processors without decimal hardware, however the forthcoming Power6 does incorporate a decimal mathematics unit, that can handle 36 digit numbers according to the new IEEE 754R standard:

I'm no expert, but it's a user land exploit which is in the firmware itself. Jailbreaks on other iDevices are hardware which means Jailbreakable for life.
It's most likely going to be at jailbreakme.com, which is a .PDF used to exploit. So I guess a few days at most. It's not going to be a program like Redsn0w or pwnagetool.
So it should be pretty quick.
I don't understand why everyone is getting so mad. It got moved, chill out.
Muscelnerd tweeted that all iPad 2 jailbreaks would have to be userland. Im glad comex found an exploit...and especially this fast.

I also read that the Quad's failure rating is around 1 percent compared to the dual 2.5 from 2004 and dual 2.7 from early 2005 - am I correct?
Not correct at all. Even the most reliable G5 ever (dual 2.3) has a failure rate of 11%. The worst is the first gen. dual 2.0GHz at 32%. No G5 model could ever even dream of having a single digit failure rate.
G5 tower reliability research results based on actual Apple service records (http://www.macintouch.com/reliability/pmg5.html)

"Seriously, if you can't find a use for 1TB of space in 3 or 4 years, then you probably shouldn't be buying a MacPro."
I can! :D
"Most photography apps don't need lots of cores (they just don't use them). The only appeal of a MacPro to a photographer is the expandability - lots of drives, interchangeable graphics cards. If you don't need the expandability, iMacs are much much better value machines."
This machine will serve multiple purposes, not only photography. However, I have thought about an iMac, but no can do!
"If you're seriously worried about saving $30 by buying a slower 500GB drive instead of a faster 1TB drive, you're definitely wasting cash spending $3000 on a MacPro."
Noted! I value opinions and personal advice. :D
"Is that right? How did the data get on to the RAID in the first place?
If your friend only has one copy of his files (on the RAID) then he doesn't have a backup. Backup = an alternate copy.
Not writing to that RAID doesn't make it magically safer... Your friend should get a backup if he's smart and he values his data."
I meant after he safed data to the drive, he does not access it on a daily basis. Although I agree with you, my friend will not. LOL He has been doing this for years.
"Not so funny when a thief breaks into your house and steals your Mac and the backup drive sat on the table next to it. Proper backups aren't just for professionals - they're for anyone who actually cares about keeping their data.
For someone with a $3000 Mac, a couple of hundred $ to buy enough disks to keep offsite copies is nothing."
I shall not be frugile any longer. Way to drive home the point! School has ended today. :) Also, sounds like you are speaking from experience.
Sounds like you should be looking at an iMac.
As stated before, I want and need the expansion of the Mac Pro.

You could do without the RAID-card altogether and just install 4 drives in the bays in the Mac Pro and use the ZFS filesystem (http://code.google.com/p/maczfs/) to make a dynamic stripe in RAID-Z, so you will get RAID-5 like performance but with better protection and data integrity.
RAID-5 is prone to something called the "RAID-5 write hole" in case of a power outage, something RAID-Z specifically is designed to handle.
Just listing this as another option.
Hmm not really keen on a software based RAID solution on a non officially supported file system for the OSX, after all I want to run some new 6G SSD's off the RAID card too in addition to a RAID5 with 4x UltraStar 6G interface drives, so I would first and foremost benefit from the faster ports on the 6G RAID controller. I might also use the external RAID support/connector on the controller for an external RAID solution. Also surely RAID-Z would take some toll on the RAM and processor too where as with the hardware controller all the processing load will be handled exclusively on the controller.

So I have two wireless controllers for my xbox, and I would like to use one of them with my macbook. My question is, is there something I can buy to make my wireless controller wired? I don't really want to buy a whole new controller, as I don't really need it.
I know with the play and charge kit, it plugs your controller into the xbox, but I'm guessing that is for the battery only, and the controller continues to send signals wirelessly.
I have a feeling there isn't a way, but it never hurts to ask.

I think I'm missing something re: getting the new iPod software for my 5G iPod. I installed iTunes, and it tells me that mine is up to date with version 1.1.2. Is there a separate download that I'm missing?
