The Ipad 2 and very recently IMac have just release.
I'm reading the buyer's guide page here and it said don't buy the Macbook for now because there will be an update soon.
I do understand just like Iphone, Apple always release a new hardware with the same price of old lower spec hardware.
But I'm in need of the Macbook for an Iphone app development and I want to see wheter I just get the Macbook air now or wait for the white Macbook with higher spec at the same price.
What do you guys think?

I would like to see,
thinner displays
HDMI
Better quality
Better response times
And 20" at 200 23" at 350 30" at 700
I couldn't wait.
Sitting here typing at my 3 week old 30" ACD I'm wondering what would the advantage of a thinner display be? (It's the foot that takes the space)
I don't get any noticeable lag on video or large graphics so how much faster do you need the response time to be?
Build quality is far in excess of any other monitor I've ever had - this thing is built like a tank and the image quality (as a print designer) is spot on. It may not suit people who need an oversaturated bright display but for me it's hard to imagine a higher image quality.
Yes, I'd like the price to have been 700 but it isn't and compared to an Eizo it's a fair price. Using a 30" professionally, in comparison to a 17" monitor (okay, big jump) I used to spend 50% of my mouse time (subjective) moving windows around the screen to get at what I wanted. The productivity gains mean this monitor will pay for itself in 6-9 months. If you want to buy a 30" for leisure use then it's a luxury and cost shouldn't be an issue.
Even if new ACD's came out at the above specs tomorrow, I wouldn't regret having bought this monitor when I did.
HDMI isn't an issue for me as I watch movies on my TV and don't have time to get into video editing etc. ;)

The games cost the companies millions to develop on each platform, and it is their intellectual property in the first place. Adding DRM to someone else's music takes a push of a button.
Which costs tens millions to operate and to license. Keep in mind that it's not any given music service which elects to use DRM, it's the recording companies that insist upon it. The reason why Fairplay is relatively lenient compared to other schemes is that it is locked down to a narrow set of compatible devices. You can copy your music to any number of iPods, for example--which goes far beyond "fair use" under the law. Win some, lose some.
I don't get your logic there at all. As I've just said, DRMd media isn't the same as software. If I didn't want a dominant Sony Walkman 20 years ago, I bought a Panasonic and my tapes still played. If I decided my Philips DVD Player was rubbish, I could buy a JVC and the DVDs still played.
You bought into an available open standard. There were competing proprietary ones as well--just none as popular as CD or DVD. There is still an available open standard (albeit often at a higher price per track). The availability of more limited music doesn't limit you one bit. You chose the limited version over the unencumbered one because it was faster, easier, and/or more customizable.
As far as I'm concerned, anything I OWN, I should have fair use rights over, even if I wish to change the make of my player. Steve Jobs makes a big deal about us OWNING our music when we buy from iTunes. If I truly own it, I should have the right to use it how I wish. Which is it?
You do own the DRMed music file. You can use it without continued payment and without time limits. Ownership of the intellectual property of others has always been nuanced. There's ownership of content (lyrics, performance, etc. can all have different owners), of distribution (including licensing for public performance), of a license to the media (on a CD belonging to you or in a digital file under your control), and of course various forms of renting and leasing. When you buy music from iTunes (or any other pay-once service), you have indefinite (timewise) usage rights and control of that license. You do not, nor can Apple legally grant you, total control over the file.
If DRM is necessary, it should be interoperable between different manufacturers. The aim of it should be to prevent illegal copying, not allow vendor lock in.
There's nothing wrong with vendor lock-in so long as an easily attainable, universal solution also exists. Since you are not obligated to buy anything from iTMS if you own an iPod, there is no justifiable harm. What I would like to see is a service permitting you to assemble custom CDs from individual tracks (instead of being forced to buy entire albums) and lower prices from iTunes. Both of these require the recording industry to embrace the Internet, rather than fight it.

Finder:
- Stop freaking putting every downloaded file in the bottom right of my Desktop, on top of the last downloaded file. Put the icon anywhere else on the free half of my Desktop.
My downloads take the next available free speace on my desktop.
- Tabbed Finder windows?
Pretty sure this is in Leopard. Didn't we see a pic somewhere?

No water damage right?
I mean, I really doubt it is, it was in my pocket today when someone splashed water on me, but I doubt very much touched it if at all.
It's starting to get really weird, like the home button will work for a little bit and then voice control will randomly activate and then I'll lose control of the phone and it'll act like I'm screwing with the home button (the quick-start menu will pop up, it'll switch black-and-white mode, voice control, etc...)
Maybe it is water damage? I mean, the phone wasn't wet or anything, how would I know?

I was digging on Wikipedia and other sources. I must have missed the part where Microsoft either sold or kept their stocks. I couldn't find hard evidence that they truly sold it. If they own 1/100 of a percent, then they are just keeping a light leash for some corporate reason.
But here is a hypothetical question you all should think of. I think of it myself sometimes. I'd like to and hope it isn't true.
Since Microsoft did help support competition between the two, what if they shared OS features? Anyone can lie up on stage if they are a good actor about their OS being original and that such and such company is copying them. But if Bill Gates struck another deal that allowed Apple to release the features we love in OS X before Vista, that would be unusual.
Just Question. I just get the feeling that something isn't right.
Asides from that, I never like hearing Ballmer talk on stage. It isn't because he is affiliated with Microsoft. He just talks in such a way that everything is generalized. "Vista will change the way you look at your computer" or something like that. He was ranting about MS Office creating new ways of writing a document. *sigh*
Oh and I use both platforms!
For gaming Athlon Alienware PC. I did a price quote to see if the All-New 7500 was similar to the Mac Pro on pricing.
It is 100-200 cheaper than the Mac Pro! I don't want an/another Alienware PC The difference between the two are the video cards. 7900 for Alienware and 7300 for Mac Pro. I'm not sure which one is a better card. Also, the 7500 has SLI, which would be great not just for gaming, but for rendering 3d projects! Any ideas if the Mac Pro would support SLI?
That Mac Pro is beautiful! Someday, I would love to own one after I finish paying off my college loans :(

thanx jiminaus,
when i typed
which perl
/opt/local/bin/perl
i tried to update that with macports, macports failed to do that.
so now,when i type
which perl
/usr/bin/perl
and when i type "/usr/bin/perl -V" it says that "useithreads=define"
so we are ok now.
but, the command "perl -V" instead of "/usr/bin/perl -V"
it says /opt/local/bin/perl: No such file or directory
so, could you please tell me how i can point to the perl implementation installed in /usr/bin/perl instead of returning me the macports location ?
thanx a lot

I was in 6th grade, about 3 days into the school year. I had just started in a new school, a nice Catholic school. I think we were in either 1st period history or 2nd period science when the first hit. We had library 3rd period I think, which was one of just a few TV's in the school with cable. When we were entering the librarian had the TV on and we could see the burning buildings. But being young, I know I didn't think much of it. After that we ate lunch and I was outside on a field playing some game of ball with some of my new friends. The lunch aides were walking around asking for me because my Mom sent my Dad to pick me up because they didn't know what would happen and I think my Dad was let out of work early (he works in government), while my Mom was still in school. The aide had got the call for me on her walkie talkie. When she was walking me to the office she said something like 'a lot of people are leaving because of what happened', but I didn't know what she was talking about. When my Dad and I met up in the office and were walking back to my class to get my books, he explained to me what happened. He then got to meet my history teacher while I was packing up.
Once we got home we filled up the bathtub with water for drinking or bathing, just in case. We didn't know what was going to happen. I remember crying because my Mom was at work and I wanted us all to be together. We live in NJ so it was all very close. We didn't know if they were in lockdown or what (turns out they didn't go into lockdown). One of the kids at this school I mentioned lost his father, I believe someone at my current school (an alumnus) lost a parent, and a close friend nearly lost both parents, but their train was late, saving their lives.
A story my Latin teach relayed to my Mom...
She had recently had her child and placed him in the daycare on campus. Our high school is on the community college campus. The high school was locked down, but her child was in the day care cross campus. She couldn't get out, so she asked her mother or mother in law to come get the baby. The police or campus police wouldn't let her into the campus. I'm not sure how it was resolved - I think my teacher was let out of the lock down - but it must have been very frightening.
Four years looks like a long time, but it didn't feel that way. To think that in that much time I'll be in my 2nd year of college is a powerful thought.

I recently discovered Pages. I think it's a great app and well worth the money...but not as a Word Processor. I use Pages as a budget version of Adobe InDesign. When I want just straight text, I stick to Word.
Excel, however, is a different matter. The line of work that I'm in has just implemented an Excel solution to help our customers fine prices on items (over 4000 items)....This relies heavily on VBA scripting to work, and I've already had some incapatibilities that if it weren't for me (as the Mac guy) wouldn't have gotten solved and left Mac users behind.
So Numbers/Lasso/Charts/whatever will likely be fairly useless to me withouth VBA. And yes, I'm aware that MS is dropping Mac support of VBA, and yes, it does make me very angry..

I don't recall off the top of my head whether it's in /var/log/kernel.log or /var/log/system.log, but when the system boots back up, it provides a previous shutdown cause as an integer, and that integer can be used to point you in the right direction. There's not actually a list that's publicly available, but I might be able to find what it means for you.

That seems like a really cool program, especially if you are looking to create a gif from your favourite TV show, or something.
What are you wanting to do with the program, though? Because you could always pause the movie or video you are trying to cap from and press control+shift+4, this brings up a box which makes a cap of only the parts of the image that are selected, and conveniently saves it to your desktop.
I understand if you are trying something a little more complex, though, that this would be a tedious and inappropriate way of going about it. :)
thank you for your advice.

That sounds promising.
My plan is to host the files from my Dropbox, giving me a good 2GB of space from the 40MB I think I have now. I'm not sure how bandwidth works with Dropbox since it's not a web host. I assume it will work fine, otherwise I'll just have to cough up some money :(
Are Dropbox items accessible from a browser?

I keep seeing percentages but never the raw numbers. iOS and Android may be increasing their market share but is the market just increasing as far as the number of users? I would guess that iOS and Android aren't leeching customers from traditional handhelds so much as expanding the user base overall and their market share is increasing because that increased user base is only coming from those devices and not from the traditional handhelds (ie DS, PSP, etc.)
